Borde Hill Unaff 18th August 2013

Sam Penn

Despite being a local event and having been given very reasonable start times, I was nonetheless hard pushed to get my rather sorry self out of bed on Sunday morning to take Flight and Christian to Borde Hill, after spending rather too late a night on the dance floor at a friends wedding!! Its not often I get to socialise as most of the events I go to are a fair drive away - luckily for me the wedding was only 30 mins away from the yard and Borde Hill less than an hours drive. An awesome wedding and the dance floor was heaving all night, a brillian time was had by all. It was lovely for me to get out of my breeches and to put a posh frock on!!!
Unfortunately things never go to plan, and whilst I was having a rare afternoon off one of my grooms quit without notice leaving me to go to a competition with two young horses on my own. After putting out a plea on Facebook we found a fantastic replacement in the shape of Georgie Wood, who fortunately for me was not competing her own horses anywhere. A HUGE Thank You to her, and to everyone else who offered to help.
The boys both behaved beautifully, 5yo Flight (Gloris Flight) was having only his second outing and 4yo Christian (Brandonview Charlie) his first, both scored good dressage marks, 26.5 and 28 respectively and both followed this with double clears.
Flight was rather too keen heading out into the countryside and took a while to settle so we picked up 7.6 time faults to finish in 5th. Christian was very chilled out about the whole deal, but I still took him very slowly for his first time, he looked at nothing except the water which he went straight into but then decided that there must be monsters lurking in the depths and he jumped straight back out again up the bank!! He was however persuaded back in and we finished the rest of the round without further incident but picked up rather a lot of time faults.
All in all it was a very good day for two very promising young horses.
