BCA 15th June 2014

Sam Penn

Yesterday was 'the black day of eventing' with the death of two event riders, Jordan McDonald & Benjamin Winters, both talented riders that had fatal accidents at two separate events, my thoughts go out to their families. RIP

So with a heavy heart and a black cloud hanging over everyone the show goes on and the atmosphere eventing was very somber at BCA. Today I had two horses on board, Nt and Wesley, both competing in BE100.

Nt started the day well with a good dressage of 26.5 and then had a fence down sj.........I haven't fallen off for a long time, two falls within a week at two BE events really is not funny! You guessed it, I fell off quite spectacularly, looking at the sequence of pictures I was in fact very lucky, the log over the trakhener gave way so Nt fell in front of the log rather than over the top of it. Still very bruised and battered from my fall off Sid last week and now a heavy fall off Nt I can certainly admit to not feeling fantastic!

So onto Wesley, he did a good dressage to score 24.5 to put him up the top of the leader board, but we somehow clocked up a time penalty SJ on top of rolling a pole! Oops, but he was the perfect tonic I needed and gave me a very comfortable ride xc to finish in 3rd place.
