Monday 17th June Training With Nick Turner

Sam Penn

I am very lucky to be trained by some of the best trainers, one of which is Nick Turner,i n January 2013, Horse Sport Ireland announce the appointment of Nick as the new High Performance Manager for Eventing Ireland with the main objective of qualifying the Irish Eventing Team for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

From 2009 until 2012 Nick was Brazilian Eventing Team Coach/Performance Manager, he has worked closely developing the team in Brazil and Europe and was Chef d'equip to the team at the 2010 World Equestrian Games and the wining team at the South American championships.  The Brazilian Eventing Team finished in 9th place at the London 2012 Olympic Games.During this time Nick was also Senior International Selector for British Eventing

Lessons with Nick are always mentally taxing for me and the exercises are always designed to make us think and work together as a team and to encourage the horse to think for himself.

Todays lesson was brilliant, I had 5 training sessions in total, with a real mixture of rides, Candie being the most experienced, Cooper found the concept of a group lesson fairly mind blowing, Dover just got on with the job, Wesley and Flight didnt quite understand the concept of skinnies but they soon learnt!

As always a real mix of questions and it made me think, ride accurately and LOOK LOOK LOOK!
